Release Railcars – Cancel Release

What is this?

Release Railcars allows you to cancel the release of empty and loaded railcars. All railcars that are on-site at your location will be displayed in the “Equipment already released…” section.

In this section, a column labeled “Cancel” with checkboxes will be available. To cancel a release select the railcars whose release you wish to cancel, then press Submit to send your request to CN.

Cancelling Released Railcars

To cancel a released railcar (empty or loaded) select the checkbox next to the car that you want to release. You can select all released railcars to cancel their release by clicking the All button in the column heading. Once all desired railcars have been selected, press Submit to complete your request.

Released Railcars that Cannot be Cancelled Online

The cancel release checkbox will be disabled (grayed out) for railcars which can not be unreleased.

There are a number of reasons why a release may not be cancelled:

  • The car has been committed on the Daily Operating Plan (DOP)
  • The service cut-off has been passed
  • The car has the following event status codes: OT, HD, PS or CP
  • Car was released Bad Order
  • When a car has been released with no service window, the release can only be cancelled up to 30 minutes following the release

Please contact your Service Delivery Representative to cancel the release for these railcars.
