(2) In an order on August 24, 2024, the Canadian Industrial Relations Board ordered the Minster of Labour’s referral, extending the collective agreement until the binding arbitration process is completed and a new agreement is reached. There can be no strike or lockout during this time.

Canadian Collective Bargaining Process Explained

Under the Canada Labour Code, the collective bargaining process is a prescribed process to help employers and unions achieve meaningful improvements through negotiation.

It is important that employees, as well as CN partners, are aware of this process, to better understand how it works and what it means – for our people and operations – at every step of the way.
