Canada
Every CN employee operating trains or engines is trained and tested (every three years) in the Canadian Rail Operating Rules (CROR).
United States
Every CN employee operating trains or engines is trained and tested (every three years) in the U.S. Operating Rules (USOR).
The operating rules must be followed 100% of the time for everyone’s safety.
In Canada and the U.S., we work hard and play by the rules.
For CN operating employees (train crews), the Canadian Work/Rest Rules define the requirements for hours of work and rest to ensure they remain alert on duty.
CN's hourly agreements with operating unions (which are unique to the rail industry) and its scheduled railroad and turnaround service, provide employees with sufficient rest and an improved quality of life.
CN invests in technology initiatives to enable our people to work safely and our network to operate efficiently.
In line with this strategy, CN may collect, store, and use biometric data (e.g., iris scan, voiceprint, fingerprint, etc.) for employment purposes, such as employee safety, worksite security, time and attendance, employee identification, performance management, regulation of internal systems, pre-employment hiring purposes, and fraud prevention.
CN’s Biometric Data Privacy Policies explain what this means for employees, how this data is used and protected, and how employees consent to CN’s activities.
