Managing Global Shipments of Auto Parts

Because of our vast network reach, as well as our access to production facilities in Michigan and Ontario, CN is a major participant in the end-to-end auto parts supply chain. We move auto parts throughout North America, including to/from Mexico via interline partnerships, in boxcars, 40-foot international containers, 53-foot domestic containers and on flatcars. In addition, we transload auto parts from import containers into domestic containers when it adds value to our customers.

Many auto parts originate or terminate overseas. We handle containerized parts for import/export through the ports of Prince Rupert, Vancouver, Montreal, Halifax, New Orleans and Mobile. Intermodal is a cornerstone of our business. Containers can be transferred seamlessly between rail, truck, and ship at multiple points along the network, enhancing flexibility.

Auto-Desk for Containerized Shipments

We offer services to manage the movement of auto parts from the origin suppliers to the destination production plants, dealers and aftermarket retailers. We understand the importance of production parts for vehicle assembly and have a dedicated customer care team to accommodate shifting needs and support the inventory strategy of automotive manufacturers. CN’s Auto-Desk staff engage with customers, steamship lines and truckers to track each shipment from the vessel to the auto plant door.
